Grand Hotel et de Milan

Opened as far back as the time of Italian Unification, in 1863, the historic luxury Grand Hotel et de Milan has ever since been a true symbol of the city of Milan. Everyone associates it with Giuseppe Verdi, who lived here for the last twenty years of his life, but over its long history countless famous figures have loved it, from Caruso to D’Annunzio, from Callas to Vittorio De Sica. An iconic place par excellence, it has today been brought up to date with the trends and challenges of the contemporary world and presents itself to the international 5-star tourism market with renewed enterprise, yet with unchanged allure. A challenge that is both prestigious and difficult, taken on every day by a young and brilliant general manager, Andrea Piantanida.

“Today in luxury,” says the director, “true excellence is the quality of time. If the ‘little’ time available when staying at a prestigious property is not fully enjoyed in the right way, one cannot feel satisfied. Not to mention that, staying at the Grand Hotel et de Milan, you find yourself in a place of inimitable charm that has also been an excellence of Milanese hospitality for two centuries. Everything here must therefore be simply excellent, to meet the needs of all our guests: and consequently so must the quality of sleep. We are also a uniquely Italian institution and we fly the flag for this strength of ours: so, to follow the same path in sleeping well too, we chose as our partner another Italian excellence in the sector, Dorelan”.

With its 72 rooms and 23 suites – the most famous of which is certainly number 105, dedicated to Maestro Giuseppe Verdi – the Grand Hotel et de Milan is a place before it is a hotel. And as such it awaits the guests who choose it to experience its unique atmosphere. “Running high-end hospitality,” adds Andrea Piantanida, “in this all too computerised age also means cultivating the luxury of the human factor. What we offer is a way of providing hospitality that looks after all of the guest’s needs, including the need to interact constantly with those who take care of them and ‘pamper’ them.

This is particularly true for a clientele like ours, which is on average aged 45 and over, and is therefore less digital and much more inclined towards human contact. In addition, we provide services of the very highest quality in another field that is decisive for today’s hospitality industry, food: while the Caruso restaurant, with its winter garden, offers cuisine that reinterprets traditional Milanese dishes in a contemporary key, its ‘twin’ Don Carlos serves Mediterranean dishes in a warm, welcoming setting, with walls covered in paintings, sketches and scenes from the Museo del Teatro alla Scala”.
